Why do we Celebrate Halloween Day
It is an annual festival celebrated on the oct 31 the day before the Hallow Eve. The origin of this festival is from the Celtic culture of Samhain. As this festival one of the rituals of the ceremony to connect with spirits. According to them, it is the festival of remembering the dead Hallows(saints), martyrs. So, they believe that on the night if Oct 31 people of ghosts will return th earth and roam around the world. Generally, the Halloween word comes from “Hollow-evening” which means the “evening before Hallow’s Day“. However, in the culture of Celtic, the festival begins from the after sunset and ends before sunset of the next day.
On this day people will dress up like those ghost and spirits. Because the wandering ghost and spirits will mistake that those people are from their group and leave them. In addition, some of the activities at this festival are visiting parties with scary costume, Pumpkin craving into a jack-o-lantern, playing pranks, watching horror movies, visiting haunted attractions…etc
What does Halloween mean in the Bible
As it is not a Christian festival, some of the Christians will not celebrate this festival. Because the Bible says “I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too”, according to 1 Corinthians 10:20, 21
And also warns according to the Deuteronomy 18:10, 11, “There must never be anyone among you who…..practices divination, who is a soothsayer, augur or sorcerer, who uses charms, consults ghosts or spirits, or calls up the dead.”
Though it is a holiday of the united states, it is not celebrated by many of the Christians. But some of them will give their active participation in costume parties, candle lighting at deads…..etc
